Former Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has expressed deep dissatisfaction with the Bola Tinubu administration, highlighting the severe economic hardship and rising hunger affecting millions of Nigerians. He warned that the current level of suffering could cost the Federal Government support in future elections.
In a now-viral video where he spoke in Yoruba, Fayemi pointed to the deteriorating condition of federal roads in Ekiti State and widespread poverty as signs of government neglect and mismanagement.
“Except we are deceiving ourselves, Nigerians are not happy with the Federal Government. Because of hunger and lack of money,” Fayemi stated candidly.
He cited poor infrastructure, particularly federal roads, as a major source of frustration for citizens. Fayemi mentioned the terrible state of roads connecting Efon Alaaye to Erio Ekiti and Omuo Ekiti through Ilasa Ekiti to Ayedun Ekiti, describing them as practically impassable.
“If we look at the roads, especially federal roads, whoever that is coming from Efon Alaaye and passes through Erio Ekiti will know what his eyes will see,” he said.
“Whoever that is coming from Omuo Ekiti and passes through Ilasa Ekiti to Ayedun Ekiti will know what his eyes will see.”
The former governor also expressed disappointment over the Federal Government’s refusal to refund over N18 billion to N20 billion spent by the state on rehabilitating federal roads during his tenure.
“When we did this road that BAO (Governor Biodun Oyebanji) just completed, I think like N18 billion to N20 billion was spent on that road,” he explained.
“Federal Government said they didn’t send us to do the road, so no refund was made. If they had refunded the money, won’t the governor have used the money to do the phase 2 of the road we did from Ado Ekiti to Iyin Ekiti, and construct the road to Aramoko-Ekiti?”
Fayemi’s remarks reflect growing discontent among citizens over worsening economic conditions, inflation, and poor infrastructure, with many demanding urgent policy changes from the Tinubu-led government.
