Reality TV star and media personality Tacha has slammed online trolls for fueling a viral controversy involving Nigerian influencer Asherkine and University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) student, Becky.
The drama erupted after Becky, during a date with Asherkine, claimed she had never been in a relationship. Shortly after, a man identifying himself as her ex-boyfriend of two years released alleged chat screenshots suggesting Becky lied and had been secretly dating Asherkine.
In a sharp reaction posted on Instagram, Tacha condemned what she described as a toxic culture of dragging women online, especially by Nigerian Twitter users.
“They’re no longer in the village, they’re all on Twitter Nigeria,” she said, likening the trolls to the “wicked aunties and uncles” African parents used to warn about. She insisted that Becky was being unfairly vilified over an innocent moment, which had been blown out of proportion by netizens eager to spread fake stories and false accusations.
Tacha argued that the narrative gained traction because many Nigerian men harbor negative stereotypes about women. “The average Nigerian man sees women as gold diggers,” she said, emphasizing that such bias often drives online outrage without proof.
Backing Becky’s claim that she didn’t know the man accusing her, Tacha called for legal action against those involved in fabricating lies. “We need to stop tearing people down out of boredom or bitterness,” she said, urging Nigerians to be more compassionate.
The incident has sparked widespread conversation on the dangers of social media bullying, fake news, and misogyny, with Tacha standing firm in her support for the embattled student.
