Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Kizz Daniel has officially reclaimed full ownership of the master recordings for his debut album, New Era, originally released under G-Worldwide Entertainment in 2016.
Announcing the milestone on social media, Kizz Daniel whose full name is Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe shared an emotional message:“From long nights in the studio to several mediations ⚖️ FINALLY, I NOW OWN EVERY SONG ON THE New Era album (2016) + Yeba & Sofa (singles) I GOT MY MASTERS BACK. This means more than words can explain. Thank you for riding with me. #NewEra #MyCatalog #Grateful.”
The album, which catapulted him to fame with hits like “Woju,” “Laye,” “Good Time,” and “Mama,” originally launched under the G-Worldwide imprint. However, disputes over contract terms led to a legal battle, culminating in Kizz Daniel’s exit and headlong shift towards independence with his label, Flyboy Inc.
Owning the masters now means Kizz Daniel controls how the album and its singles are used, monetized, and licensed going forward. This grants him 100% of streaming revenue, sync deals, and other royalties for New Era and the related singles.
This development marks a major victory in the ongoing conversation around artists’ rights and creative autonomy in Nigeria. It parallels global trends of musicians regaining their master recordings paving the way for greater ownership and wealth retention within the industry.
Industry professionals and fans alike have applauded the move, describing it as a watershed moment in artist empowerment.
By successfully reclaiming his catalog, Kizz Daniel sets a powerful precedent, reminding Nigerian and African talents that long-term control over one’s art is both possible and vital.
Kizz Daniel is now free to fully exploit his back catalog, ushering in a new chapter of creative and commercial independence.
