Fuji music icon Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, widely known as K1 De Ultimate, has paid an emotional tribute to his late mother, Princess Halima Anifowoshe, crediting her as a foundational influence in his musical career.
Speaking on a podcast while promoting his latest project, Ganusi: The Album Fuji Classical, K1 revealed that the track “Mama” was specially dedicated to honour his mother’s memory and her deep involvement in his early musical development.
According to the veteran artist, his mother was not only the first person to introduce him to the rudiments of music and singing, but she also served as his early composer. He described her as a naturally gifted singer whose own dreams were curtailed by societal and cultural expectations.
“My mother, as a young maiden, was a singer and a princess by birth,” K1 shared. “But she was denied the opportunity to pursue music because she was the daughter of a reigning king and a woman they wanted to marry off early. Everything she had in her musically, God passed it on to me.”
He went on to explain how his mother consistently contributed to his craft during her lifetime. “She served as my composer many times. Her input shaped my musical journey, so it’s only right to honour her with this track.”
K1’s mother, Princess Halima Anifowoshe, passed away in January 2025. The song “Mama” now stands as a heartfelt tribute to her legacy and the lasting imprint she left on her son’s illustrious career.
