Renowned Nigerian cleric and founder of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, has shared his views on the financial giving culture in churches, stating that offerings should be more than tithes. According to him, many Christians have misunderstood the principle of giving by offering less than they tithe, which he believes is not aligned with biblical principles.
While addressing his congregation during a recent sermon, Pastor Ibiyeomie emphasized the importance of generosity in offerings. He pointed out that some believers mistakenly assume that once they have given their tithe—which is 10 percent of their income—they have fulfilled their obligation to God. However, he argued that offerings should reflect deeper gratitude and worship, and thus should be greater than the tithe.
In his words: “Your offerings should be bigger than your tithes.”
Pastor Ibiyeomie further explained that the tithe is a requirement, but offerings are a demonstration of love and honor toward God. He noted that offering more than the tithe shows a heart that truly values and reveres God's blessings.
He encouraged his members and the wider Christian community to develop a culture of giving generously beyond the minimum requirement of tithing, stating that this mindset attracts greater blessings and divine favor.
The respected preacher, known for his teachings on prosperity and kingdom stewardship, has consistently urged believers to embrace a lifestyle of giving as a way to unlock God's abundance in their lives.
His recent message has sparked conversation online, with many reflecting on how they approach giving in church and whether their offerings align with the biblical call to cheerful and generous giving.
