Nollywood actress and outspoken activist Kate Henshaw has raised serious concerns about the impact of Nigeria’s democratic journey, stating that despite over two decades of uninterrupted civilian rule, citizens are yet to see meaningful improvements in their lives.

During her appearance on a special Democracy Day programme on Channels Television, Henshaw criticised the state of the nation and questioned the relevance of celebrating democracy when its benefits remain out of reach for the majority.

According to her, the system has failed to address the real issues affecting Nigerians.

“There is no middle class and we cannot tell any more lies to ourselves,” she said, adding that every aspect of the economy is in disarray.

“Everything around us is crumbling and Nigerians are barely holding on by the skin of their teeth,” she noted, highlighting the growing hardship across the country.

While expressing her disappointment, Henshaw called on citizens to continue demanding accountability and justice.

“We cannot keep quiet,” she insisted. “There must be justice, equity, and security for the people — for their lives and property.”

Despite the challenges, the actress said she still believes in the possibility of a better Nigeria.

“But I still hold on to hope that we will have a country to live in, for our children — something they can build on,” she concluded.
