Popular Nigerian disc jockey, DJ Obi, has opened up about his personal battles with love, regret, and his evolving outlook on marriage as he turns 40.
In a candid chat on the Afropolitan podcast, the DJ revealed how past heartbreaks and life choices have reshaped his perspective on relationships and family.
According to DJ Obi, his disillusionment with marriage stemmed from emotional wounds he’s still trying to understand. “I didn’t just lose a relationship.
I lost the belief in what it meant to be married,” he shared. He admitted that his own missteps—such as dishonesty, emotional unavailability, and ignoring warning signs played a major role in the breakdown of his relationships.
Growing up in a family where men commonly had multiple partners, DJ Obi says he didn’t fully grasp how those patterns could influence his future.
He also confessed that his high-energy career and love for a vibrant home clashed with the stability his family needed. “I want noise, I want kids running around but I only get that when I visit them,” he said, noting that his children live with their mothers.
Despite being raised Christian, DJ Obi admitted his faith has shifted. While he still prays, he now leans more toward partnership than the traditional idea of marriage. He says he's still healing and figuring things out as he grows older.
His revelation adds to the growing list of Nigerian celebrities opening up about emotional trauma, relationships, and the pressures of fame. It also reflects a broader conversation around men being more vulnerable and honest about their inner battles.
