Nigerian skit maker Brain Jotter has expressed deep sorrow over the death of veteran highlife musician, Mike ‘Gentleman’ Ejeagha, who died on Friday night after a battle with prostate cancer.

In an emotional Instagram post on Saturday, Brain Jotter shared a video of his 2024 visit to Ejeagha’s residence in Enugu, where they connected over the musician’s iconic 1983 track Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo. The post served as a tribute to the music legend, whose sound recently enjoyed a resurgence.

He captioned the video:

“39 years ago, he made magic (Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo song). 39 years later, we danced to it again. Now, he rests, but his melody lives forever. Rest in peace, legend.”

The classic song gained renewed fame in 2024 when Brain Jotter featured it in a dance challenge that went viral on social media. The challenge attracted massive engagement—over 29.1 million views and 30,000 comments on Instagram, along with more than 19.6 million views on TikTok.

In recognition of the cultural impact and renewed interest in Ejeagha’s music, Brain Jotter had visited the highlife icon and presented him with a cash gift of N2 million.

Mike Ejeagha, celebrated for his lyrical wisdom and storytelling, was a pillar of traditional Igbo highlife music. Though he is gone, his legacy continues to live on through his timeless melodies and recent revival among younger audiences.
