Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has publicly demanded the release of social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Very Dark Man (VDM), following his arrest by the Nigerian Police Force in Abuja.
According to reports, VDM was taken into custody on Friday, with his lawyer, Denise Adeyanju, confirming the incident via a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Reacting to the development, Rita Edochie took to her Instagram page to express her concerns over his detention. She praised the activist for his courage and social impact, emphasizing that he holds a unique role in advocating for societal change.
In her words: "I am not exaggerating nor talking down on anyone. But VDM is the only young man that is societally outstanding. If he is silenced, no other person is ready to take his place as per lending a voice."
Calling for urgent action, she added: "Free VDM now!! Yes na me tok am. The young man is one in a million and does not fear speaking the truth. Nothing must happen to VDM, else the youths are finished."
Edochie’s statement has stirred conversations online, with many weighing in on the role of youth voices in social activism.
