Nigerian musician Seun Kuti has shared his thoughts on the arrest of social media activist VeryDarkMan, suggesting that the incident is part of a larger power struggle involving religious leaders in the country.

Speaking out on the matter, Kuti revealed that he had spoken with VeryDarkMan’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, and believes that the arrest was triggered by the activist’s outspoken views, particularly concerning an ongoing controversy related to an unnamed gospel singer.

“VDM’s lawyer is also my lawyer, and we are currently dealing with issues with GTB and other banks. There’s no trustworthy bank in Nigeria,” Kuti wrote, referencing his own legal disputes with financial institutions.

He further emphasized the influence of religious leaders, claiming that the arrest is not only a government issue but one where pastors in Nigeria also play a crucial role. Kuti stated that the critics of VeryDarkMan’s vocal stance are likely driven by these religious figures.

“The government may be in control of the country, but it’s these pastors who are truly running Nigeria. It’s people who claim to be followers of God that are attacking VDM for speaking the truth,” he remarked.

VeryDarkMan, who is known for his critical views and activism, was reportedly detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja. However, details regarding the arrest remain scarce, with neither the EFCC nor any other official body offering a formal statement.

Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) has been linked to the situation, but the bank has yet to make any public comment on the matter.

In the midst of these developments, speculation has emerged that VeryDarkMan’s arrest may be connected to an ongoing legal issue involving gospel artist Mercy Chinwo and her former record label boss, Eezee Tee. However, this theory has yet to be confirmed by any parties involved.
