Nigerian rapper and singer Keshinro Ololade, popularly known as Lil Kesh, has opened up about the challenges that came with achieving fame at a young age, describing the journey as emotionally intense.
Speaking on The Esther Show in an episode shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, the “Shoki” crooner reflected on the weight of early success and how it affected his personal growth.
“Making it big early felt overwhelming. I blew at a very tender age. I was 19 when I got signed,” he said.
“I had just turned 20 when I had ‘Shoki.’ So, imagine being in the spotlight that early. I feel like that is not talk about so much.”
Lil Kesh also referenced international pop icon Justin Bieber, commending him for being open about the mental strain that can come with fame.
“Shoutout to people like Justin Bieber who was vulnerable enough to tell his story. I went through things similar to that,” he shared.
Reflecting further, the artist said that rising to stardom so early came at a cost, including missing out on key personal experiences.
“Coming to the spotlight at a very early age, I was also deprived of a lot of things; life experiences that I should have learnt before. I was put in a high position at such an early stage. It was overwhelming trying to handle all of that,” Lil Kesh added.
His honest remarks have since sparked widespread discussions among fans about the unseen pressures young artists often face in the limelight.
