Afrobeats star Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has announced a new solo project that will see him revisit and reinvent some of Psquare’s legendary tracks.
In an interview over the weekend, Mr P revealed plans to release an EP titled Refix—a collection of reworked versions of hit songs originally recorded during his time with Psquare, the iconic music duo he formed with his twin brother, Paul Okoye.
Despite reuniting briefly in 2021 after their 2017 split, the brothers’ relationship soured again in 2024. Their feud deepened when Paul publicly accused Peter of engineering his arrest by the EFCC. Peter denied the allegation and instead blamed their older brother and ex-manager, Jude Okoye, for mismanaging funds from the group’s joint account.
Now focused on his solo journey, Peter explained that the upcoming Refix project allows him to present classic Psquare songs through a fresh lens—crafted in his own voice and style. He made it clear that he won’t face copyright hurdles, as he holds equal rights to the original works.
“I’m not just remixing the songs—I’m reinterpreting them the way I always imagined them creatively,” he said, confirming that the EP is expected before the end of 2025.
Mr P also spoke candidly about the personal growth he’s experienced as a solo artist, describing the freedom to create without limits as liberating.
“There’s something special about being able to make music on your own terms. I can finally explore ideas I used to hold back on,” he said.
He urged fans to respect their decision to part ways, acknowledging that the reunion didn’t turn out as hoped. “We tried to make it work again, but sometimes it’s best to move on,” he added.
While he admits not everyone may agree with his choices, Mr P is focused on what brings him joy—and that, he says, is making music his own way.
