Nigerian content creator and comedian Cute Abiola has opened up about the difficulties he encountered while trying to manage his creative work alongside a career in the Nigerian Navy.

In a recent interview on HipTV, which was posted to Instagram on Monday, Abiola described his time in the military as “the most challenging phase” of his life, noting that the demands of naval service didn’t stop him from consistently producing skits.

“I’ve done a lot of things that were more tough than my current situation. I used to be in the Nigerian navy,” he said. “That time was the most critical part of my life, and I was still able to achieve shooting content and being in the navy. That was very, very hard.”

Despite typically working six days a week, the skit maker revealed he managed to stay consistent with content production, often posting two or three videos weekly.

“I used to be at work from Mondays to Saturdays most times, and all my contents still used to be out there,” he said. “I’m a very dedicated person because I know that I’m supposed to meet a target in my revenue. I have a target for myself, and I used that to motivate myself to make more than I made the previous month.”

Born Abdulgafar Ahmad, Cute Abiola received training at the Nigerian Navy School. In November 2021, he was detained for breaching the Navy’s social media guidelines. He was later released and assigned to supervise gutter cleaning in the barracks for a month.

A year later, in November 2022, he publicly announced his resignation from the Navy, stating his desire to pursue his entertainment career full-time.

“I was overwhelmed with regard to the approval of my exit from the Navy by the chief of naval staff so as for me to have enough time to passionately pursue my dreams,” he said.
