Popular Nigerian skit maker Josh2Funny has firmly defended his longtime colleague Deeone following growing calls from fans to remove him from their collaborative comedy show, The Audition.
The backlash against Deeone stems from his public criticisms of controversial social commentator, Verydarkman, which have drawn ire from sections of the online community. Many fans, displeased with his tone and comments, urged Josh2Funny to cut ties with him on the show.
Addressing the issue on social media, Josh2Funny dismissed the calls, insisting that Deeone remains an integral part of The Audition, a comedy skit series they have co-created since 2017. According to Josh, loyalty and creative chemistry take precedence over fleeting public opinion.
He noted that Deeone had been a consistent support system for him over the years, often showing up for him in moments of need. Dropping him now, he explained, would not only be unfair but also go against the spirit of their collaboration.
Josh made it clear that while viewers may not always agree with a performer’s opinions outside the show, comedy remains the core of their content not online spats or trending controversies.
“People from around the world watch The Audition,” he added. “The show isn’t just for Nigerians, and it’s not built around who’s popular or not. It’s about laughter, storytelling, and staying true to our comedic roots.”
Concluding his statement, Josh encouraged fans to either enjoy the content for what it is or simply scroll past if it doesn’t appeal to them. He emphasized peace, love, and the importance of staying focused on creative expression rather than cancel culture.
His stance has sparked mixed reactions online, with many applauding his loyalty while others maintain that Deeone’s presence remains divisive.
