Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mary Njoku has stirred deep reflection online after posing a series of soul-searching questions about life, purpose, and existence.
In a post shared via her Instagram story, the actress challenged her followers to think beyond surface-level religious responses and genuinely evaluate why they are still alive while others, who may have lived better or more faithful lives, are gone.
Raising a rhetorical question, Njoku wrote:
“I have a simple but important question for everyone today: Why are we alive?
Have you ever truly asked yourself that?
Why are you still here while so many others, some better, kinder, more faithful, are gone?
What’s your purpose?”
She cautioned against using religious clichés as explanations, emphasizing that many devout people have also passed away.
“Please, don’t give the default answers like ‘God loves me’ or ‘it’s grace.’ Yes, grace is real.
Yes, God loves you. But he loved them too. So again, I ask: Why are you still breathing? What are you here to do?”
Njoku also addressed those who claim their purpose is to “win souls for Christ,” urging them to examine their true impact.
“And please don’t come at me with the usual line: I’m here to win souls for Christ.
It sounds noble, sure, but let’s be real: Many people who were far more effective at that than you are are no longer here.
You’re not out-preaching them.”
She concluded her message with a call for personal accountability and meaningful contribution:
“So, again, I ask: What is your real purpose?
What’s your actual contribution to people, to your community, to this moment in time?”
The actress’s message has sparked mixed reactions, with some praising her honesty while others debated the religious undertones of her statement.
