In a twist of irony, many bloggers and influencers who once dismissed VeryDarkMan (VDM) as irrelevant now can’t seem to stop posting about him—especially following his recent arrest. While their feeds are flooded with commentary, reactions, and unsolicited advice, one thing is noticeably missing: genuine support.
“It’s funny how many bloggers and social media influencers are hating on VeryDarkMan (VDM), yet they can’t stop posting about him all day,” said a self-described real fan of VDM.
The fan suggests that much of the backlash VDM faces isn't rooted in concern or criticism, but in envy. “They’re literally cashing out from his arrest, creating content after content—but deep down, you can read between the lines: the hate comes from jealousy.”
Once disregarded as “a nobody,” VDM has risen to become arguably the most talked-about figure on Nigerian social media. His rapid rise appears to have struck a nerve with some in the online community.
“E dey pain them, and it shows,” the supporter added, using a popular Nigerian phrase to emphasize the bitterness being expressed online.
As influencers continue to share tips on what VDM should do upon his release, the fan argues these so-called suggestions are just a strategy to keep profiting from the buzz. “Now they’re all suddenly dishing out ‘advice’ on what VDM should do after his release—but we know it’s just a way to keep milking the topic for views and revenue.”
Despite the attention, many of VDM’s critics have refrained from publicly calling for his freedom. “The least they could do is say #FreeVDM—but even that small support? Dem no fit drop am,” the fan concluded.
