Gbenga Adeyinka Celebrates Dele Momodu’s Impact, Recalls Lifesaving Support During London Ordeal

Veteran Nigerian comedian and media figure, Gbenga Adeyinka, has paid heartfelt tribute to Ovation magazine publisher, Dele Momodu, recounting a pivotal moment when the media icon offered him crucial support in a time of need.

In a touching Instagram post shared on Friday to mark Momodu’s 65th birthday, Adeyinka reflected on the major role the respected journalist played in shaping both his personal and professional journey.

The comedian narrated a particular incident during his early career when he was stranded in London after a performance. According to him, Momodu stepped in with kindness and generosity, ensuring he was not left helpless.

“I can never forget his unwavering generosity, which he has shown me time and time again,” Adeyinka wrote. “There was a time I found myself stuck in London after a performance for a colleague, as my airline had unboarded me due to our tickets not being priority.

“In that challenging moment, Aare Bamidele invited me over for dinner and provided me with more than enough money to take care of my needs during my stay. What truly sets him apart is his selflessness — he never asks for anything in return.”

Adeyinka credited Momodu for believing in him when others didn’t and for creating opportunities that elevated his career. “In my early days as a comedian, he believed in me when many others did not. He was the first person to take me abroad to perform for royalty and the upper echelons of society, opening doors I could have only dreamed of,” he wrote.

Expressing his admiration, Adeyinka described Momodu as a man who embodies cultural and moral integrity. “Aare Bamidele embodies the true essence of Egbonism and the ethos of Omoluabi; he remains a reference point for these values.”

Concluding his tribute, he praised the media mogul’s enduring legacy: “Your legacy is one of kindness, support, and excellence. Thank you for being an inspiration to us all, and for the countless lives you’ve touched.”
