American R&B artist Chris Brown has been ordered to remain in custody by a UK court following his arrest in connection with a 2023 assault case tied to a nightclub incident in London.

Brown, 35, was detained early Thursday at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester, shortly after flying into the UK via private jet on Wednesday afternoon. Authorities confirmed he was taken into custody over a violent incident that allegedly took place on February 19, 2023, at Tape nightclub, located in the upscale Hanover Square area of London.

According to police, Brown has been charged with “grievous bodily harm with intent” following claims that he assaulted music producer Abe Diaw with a bottle during the altercation.

On Friday, he appeared before Manchester Magistrates’ Court, where District Judge Joanne Hirst ruled that the singer remain in custody until his next court appearance on June 13 at Southwark Crown Court in London. The judge denied a bail request, citing the seriousness of the allegations.

This development puts Brown’s European tour dates at risk, particularly performances scheduled for June 8 in the Netherlands and June 11 in Germany. He is also slated to perform in Germany on June 13, the same day he is expected to return to court.

Brown, who rose to fame with hits like “Kiss Kiss” and “Run It!”, has faced several legal challenges throughout his career. In 2009, he was convicted of felony assault for attacking pop star Rihanna, his then-girlfriend. He has since been linked to other allegations, including cases involving domestic and sexual violence.

At the time of the alleged 2023 assault, Brown was on tour in the UK. His arrest this week comes just as he was set to kick off another string of sold-out shows across Europe.

As the court proceedings continue, the future of his scheduled performances remains uncertain.
