Nollywood actress Chika Ike has shared a deeply personal story about her former marriage, shedding light on the struggles she faced behind closed doors.
Married at just 21 years old in 2006, Chika believed she had found lasting love with her then-husband, Tony Eberiri. “I was young, hopeful, and ready to build a happy home,” she recalled. But the reality of her marriage was far from the dream she had envisioned.
The union, which lasted seven years, was marked by pain and turmoil. Chika courageously revealed the abuse she endured during that time. “Behind the beautiful pictures and smiles, I was suffering in silence,” she said. “I faced domestic violence. Yes, I was beaten, broken, and bruised—physically and emotionally. I even lost a pregnancy because of the abuses.”
Despite her efforts to save the marriage through prayer, tears, and hope, nothing changed. Eventually, a pivotal moment came when she no longer recognized herself. “That was the day I said, ‘Enough is enough.’ I chose myself. I left that marriage, not because I didn’t want to be a wife, but because I didn’t want to be a victim anymore.”
Leaving wasn’t without challenges. Chika faced criticism and judgment from some, but she stood by her decision. “People judged me. Some blamed me. But I knew my peace, my life, and my happiness mattered more.”
Today, she stands stronger and more empowered. “I still believe in love, but I also believe love should not hurt,” Chika emphasized. “Never be afraid to walk away from what is killing your spirit.”
Her story serves as an inspiring message to those suffering in silence, reminding them that choosing oneself is an act of courage, not weakness.
