The Federal High Court in Lagos has granted music producer Ezekiel Onyedikachi, also known as EeZeeTee, a bail of N20 million in connection with allegations of foreign exchange fraud. EeZeeTee, who was previously the manager of gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, faces charges brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged $255,000 forex transaction.

The court, presided over by Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, set the bail terms, requiring EeZeeTee to provide a surety who must reside in Lagos and own property equivalent to the bail sum. The accused was given 72 hours to meet these conditions.

The EFCC initially filed 14 charges against EeZeeTee, later amending the number to seven, accusing him of engaging in unauthorized foreign exchange transactions without approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The specific transaction in question involved a deal worth $52,895 conducted in June 2023 with an individual named Oladotun Olaobaju Mureke.

During the court proceedings, prosecution counsel Bilikisu Buhari-Bala argued that EeZeeTee’s actions were in violation of Nigeria’s Foreign Exchange Act, which governs forex transactions and mandates a license from the CBN for such dealings. However, EeZeeTee pleaded not guilty to all charges, maintaining his innocence.

The case has been adjourned to June 20, 2025, for further hearing and trial. This legal development comes as the EFCC continues to crack down on financial crimes in the country, with many watching to see how the case will unfold. The outcome could have significant implications for EeZeeTee’s career and for the broader Nigerian music industry.
