Jackie Chan, the legendary martial artist and actor, has recently shared his thoughts on retirement, revealing that he has no plans to step away from the screen anytime soon.
Despite being 71 years old and having built a remarkable career over decades, Chan emphasized that he will continue performing his own stunts, which he has been known for throughout his illustrious career.
In an interview with Haute Living on Tuesday, the Rush Hour star stated that performing stunts is an integral part of who he is, and it will not change until the day he retires which, according to Chan, may never come. “Of course, I always do my own stunts. It’s who I am,” he shared.
Having been in the industry for 64 years, Chan mentioned that physical preparation is no longer necessary for him, as his work is now instinctual, driven by muscle memory and years of experience.
Throughout the interview, Chan reflected on how action sequences in films have evolved since he began his career in 1962.
While advancements in technology, such as CGI, have allowed actors to perform increasingly impossible stunts, Chan expressed concerns that these digital effects can take away the authenticity and sense of danger in action scenes. “With computers, actors can do anything, but there’s always a sense of reality that you feel is missing,” he noted.
Though Chan is known for his incredible resilience and love for action, his comments suggest that he’s not ready to retire anytime soon, preferring to continue thrilling audiences with his signature stunts and timeless performances.
