Former senator Ben Murray-Bruce has stirred conversation online after suggesting that Nigerian music superstar, Davido, may someday become the Governor of Osun State. In a recently shared video message, Bruce stated that Davido’s political lineage and active interest in politics make the idea far from unrealistic.
Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, hails from the prominent Adeleke family of Osun State. His late uncle, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, once served as the state's governor, while the current governor, Ademola Adeleke, is also his uncle. These deep political roots, Bruce noted, are enough foundation for Davido to consider public office.
“Considering the DNA of the Adeleke family… the thought that Davido could one day aspire to become the Governor of Osun State seems more like a potential trajectory,” Bruce said. He went further to call Davido a “political animal,” stating that side of the singer is largely unknown to the public.
Bruce expressed confidence in Davido’s political prospects, especially given the rising trend of entertainers entering politics in Nigeria. He boldly predicted, “Davido, if you run, I predict you will win.”
The statement has since sparked mixed reactions, with fans and political watchers weighing in on the possibility of a transition from the stage to state governance for the Afrobeat star. Davido himself is yet to react publicly to Bruce’s prediction.
This is not the first time the idea of Davido joining politics has surfaced, but Bruce’s public endorsement adds new weight to the conversation. Whether or not the singer heeds the call remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the political potential of Davido continues to grow in public discourse.
