“Acting Is Where I Excel, Producing Is Not My Strength” – Dele Odule

Veteran Nigerian actor Dele Odule has opened up about his preference for acting roles in other people’s projects rather than producing his own films. 

Speaking in a recent interview with Oyinmomo, Odule explained that he finds film production challenging, especially when it comes to managing finances.

Describing producing as a business that requires careful financial planning to turn a profit, Odule admitted that money management is not his strong suit. Despite having produced around 10 films, he confessed uncertainty about their profitability and even the whereabouts of their master copies.

“I’m not good at producing. I’ve never been a good producer. A good producer must know how to manage money, and I don’t know how to do that,” he stated. “Production is a commercial venture; you need to be able to make a profit from the investment, but that’s not my strength. That’s why I prefer acting — it’s where I excel.”

He added, “If you ask me about the master copies of those films today, I honestly don’t know where they are. That shows I’m not a good producer.”

Despite these challenges, Odule expressed interest in producing films for cinema or streaming platforms like Netflix if given the opportunity. “Even though I’m not great at producing, I’d love to produce a film for Netflix or the cinema. I wouldn’t settle for anything less,” he said.

The actor also revealed that he was blacklisted from acting for two years, a situation he attributes to being seen as a threat. “I was blacklisted from acting for two years. I believe it happened because I was becoming a threat, and they tried to deal with me by blackmailing me,” Odule disclosed.

This candid revelation sheds light on the struggles and resilience of one of Nollywood’s respected veterans as he continues to focus on his strengths in acting.
