Controversial singer, Okikiola Badmus, widely known as Portable, has been remanded at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, after he was unable to meet the strict bail conditions set by the Upper Area Court.

This follows the singer’s appearance in court on Monday to address defamation allegations filed against him by renowned Fuji musician, Okunola Saheed, better known as Saheed Osupa.

Portable was granted bail in the amount of N1 million, with stringent conditions, including the provision of two sureties, each in the same sum.

As per the court’s order, one of the sureties must be either the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), while the second must be a property owner in a Government Reserved Area in Ilorin, with a valid Certificate of Occupancy to back the claim.

The case, recorded as First Information Report (FIR) 117(1) CPC, was filed by the State Intelligence Department of the police, following a petition submitted by Osupa on March 21, 2025.

The petition alleges that Portable made defamatory remarks during a live broadcast on Instagram, accusing Osupa of being envious of his success and attempting to ruin his reputation.

Portable reportedly stated in the video, “This man dey try bring down my shine! He be like person wey dey chop snail with shell—him no get sense. Osupa carry tortoise for stomach. When Apple Music and Spotify want to drop money for me, na him remove my song from the platform, make I no see money (sic).”

Osupa argued that Portable’s statements were not just defamatory but were also meant to incite hatred and disturb public peace.

Following the petition, the case was transferred to the Kwara State Police Command, where officers arrested the singer. During interrogation, Portable reportedly confessed to the accusations.

A statement from the police spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, revealed that Portable faced multiple charges, including criminal defamation, threats to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace, and the use of offensive language.

“The command secured a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court in Ilorin based on the serious nature of these allegations and the evidence provided,” the statement noted.

“Acting on the warrant, the police moved to Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Sunday, 13th April 2025, where they apprehended the suspect at around 7:25 p.m. He was quickly transferred to Ilorin for further questioning.”

Once in Ilorin, the police recorded Portable’s statement in the presence of legal representatives from both parties.

ASP Adeniyi James, the Investigating Police Officer, confirmed that Portable was charged following instructions from the police authorities.
