Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been granted bail by an Upper Area Court in Ilorin, Kwara State. The court set the bail at N1 million, with two sureties required in like sum.
Portable was arraigned on multiple charges, including criminal defamation, intimidation, inciting public disturbance, and cyberstalking. The charges stem from recent actions and statements by the singer, which authorities described as capable of disrupting public peace.
According to the court’s bail condition, one of the sureties must be a top official either the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN). The second surety must be a property owner within a Government Reserved Area (GRA) and must present a valid Certificate of Occupancy.
The singer’s legal team has assured that efforts are already in place to meet the bail conditions and secure his release as soon as possible.
This is not Portable’s first run-in with the law, as he has been involved in several controversies in the past, both online and offline. Despite his frequent brushes with authorities, the singer continues to maintain a loyal fanbase, thanks to his unconventional style and street credibility.
Just days earlier, Portable made headlines for appreciating UK rapper Skepta over fair royalties from their collaboration on Tony Montana, further showcasing the unpredictable nature of his public image a mix of controversy and musical success.
As the case continues, fans and industry watchers are keeping a close eye on developments, especially as Portable prepares to bounce back once again from yet another legal hurdle.
