Nigerian artistes Portable and Speed Darlington are set to go head-to-head in a highly anticipated boxing match on April 18 at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The rivalry between the two began when Darlington extended an invitation to Portable to perform at his event, offering N500,000 for the gig. Portable, however, declined the offer, mocking Darlington for being “poor” and claiming he charges N20 million per performance.
“Why invite me to your show if you can’t afford it? You’re just using my name for promotion. I charge N20 million, ask around,” Portable said. “N500k? For what? I don’t associate with poor people. I don’t know how poor he is.”
In response, Darlington accused Portable of insulting his mother. “Why did I bring myself down to contact him? I regret it because of the insults, especially involving my mother,” he said.
Portable, unphased, challenged Darlington to a fight, boasting that he would defeat him just like he did actor Charles Okocha. “I want to fight you. Let’s get in the ring, and I’ll beat you like I did Okocha,” he declared.
The event, which has generated considerable buzz, was officially confirmed by organiser Mygamerush on Instagram, with the caption, “You asked for it, and now it’s here. Two street kings battle for ultimate street supremacy.”
