Veteran Nollywood actress, Joke Silva, has expressed her outrage over the increasing cases of women being murdered by their partners in Nigeria due to alleged infidelity. The actress's comments come after the tragic death of Mrs. Chioma Nwaka, a housewife who was set ablaze by her husband, Obiozor Nwaka, in Anambra State.
In an exclusive interview with Saturday Beats, Silva emphasized that men who commit such heinous crimes should face the full weight of the law. "These men should be tried and put in jail for life because it is a capital offense," she said. Silva questioned the logic behind killing a partner for alleged infidelity, pointing out that men often cheat without facing similar consequences.
The actress also highlighted the need for proof of infidelity before making such drastic accusations. "Where's the proof that she cheated? And what about the man who she cheated with, what would happen to him? Is he supposed to go scot-free?" Silva asked.
Silva further emphasized that even if there is evidence of cheating, it is never an excuse to take someone's life. "Why can't you just carry your bag and leave? Or send the woman back to her parents?" she said.
The actress also stressed that the entertainment industry can play a role in addressing these killings by advocating for stricter sanctions against perpetrators. "One of the best forms of advocacy is enforcing sanctions for bad behavior. This isn't just bad behavior; it is criminal," Silva said.
