Nollywood actress Jemima Osunde has opened up about a traumatic experience she had after contracting a life-threatening illness on a movie set in Ibadan, Oyo State. According to Osunde, she developed GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) from the food she ate on set three years ago and has been fighting for her life ever since.
Osunde shared her ordeal on her social media handle, expressing regret for taking the job that led to her illness. She wrote, "I've never regretted anything the way I regret taking that job and going with them to Ibadan to shoot under their care... Got H. pylori from set food and the aftermath GERD has left me fighting for my life the last 3 years."
The actress revealed that her condition has worsened in the past month, saying, "The past month has really been something else" Her colleague, Omowunmi Dada, responded to Osunde's post, sharing a similar experience. Dada narrated how she contracted sepsis while filming in Oyo and was abandoned at a hotel. She said the producer later asked for a refund after she luckily survived the illness.
Osunde replied to Dada's comment, expressing shock and gratitude that her colleague survived the ordeal. She also shared her own experience of paying for her treatment herself and being asked for a refund by the production team. Osunde's story highlights the risks and challenges faced by actors in the Nigerian film industry, particularly when it comes to their health and well-being.
