The Federal Government of Nigeria has made a generous donation of N30 million to the family of the late Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, the renowned designer of the Nigerian flag. This donation comes two years after Akinkunmi's passing on August 29, 2023, at the age of 87.
The Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Lanre Issa-Onilu, presented the cheque to Akinkunmi's family on behalf of the Federal Government at their residence in Ibadan. This gesture is a fulfillment of the government's pledge to support the family, which was made during a condolence visit by President Bola Tinubu in September 2023.
According to Issa-Onilu, the donation is not intended to pay for Akinkunmi's services, but rather to support his family in appreciation of his contributions to the country. Akinkunmi's son, Akinwunmi, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the gesture.
This donation is a recognition of Akinkunmi's legacy and his role in designing the Nigerian flag.
