Veteran Nigerian singer, Blackface, has addressed the longstanding perception that he frequently accuses his colleagues of stealing his songs without justification. The artist firmly stated that none of the individuals he has accused has ever denied the allegations, which he believes lends credibility to his claims.
In a recent interview with TVC, Blackface explained that his unique musical style is admired by many, which often leads to others replicating his work. However, he criticized the practice of using his songs without giving proper credit.
“People jack my vibes. They love them. It’s not their fault. If I was not me, I would be jacking me too,” he remarked, acknowledging the appeal of his sound.
He emphasized the importance of intellectual property rights, stating that once a song is published and registered, it becomes a protected work. He challenged artists to prove their songs were released before his if they claim originality.
“It’s not about whether I’ve viable proofs or not. The truth is that the action is wrong. So many Nigerian artists have jacked my songs. And these people that I’ve complained about, they have never for once denied it. So you people would have seen that and say there’s an iota of truth in what Blackface is saying,” he added.
Blackface’s comments have reignited conversations about intellectual property in the Nigerian music industry, with fans divided on the issue. While some commend his determination to protect his work, others argue that the constant allegations overshadow his contributions to the music scene.
