Nigerian-British boxing champion Anthony Joshua has sparked conversation with his assertion that becoming a billionaire solely through entertainment or sports is unlikely.
Sharing his thoughts on Snapchat, the two-time world heavyweight champion advised entertainers and athletes to prioritize the business side of their careers over fleeting fame.
“For anyone to reach billionaire status, it will not be through sports, music, or entertainment,” Joshua wrote. “Don’t get lost in the hype; focus on sustainability, books, and business ethics.”
His remarks come as a reflection on the few global entertainers and sports stars who have achieved billionaire status, such as Jay-Z, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and LeBron James. Most of these individuals owe their wealth to endorsements and business ventures rather than their primary careers.
Joshua’s statement has sparked mixed reactions, with some praising his focus on long-term wealth building and others questioning his take, given the rising influence of entertainment and sports in creating generational wealth.
The boxer’s message serves as a reminder of the importance of financial literacy and diversifying income streams, even for those at the top of their game.
