Afrobeats megastar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has sparked discussions on governance and democracy after drawing comparisons between Nigeria and the United States.

Speaking during a recent episode of The Morning Hustle podcast, the singer revealed his admiration for the democratic system in America while lamenting its absence in his home country, Nigeria.

“What I like about America is that there’s true democracy. Where I come from [Nigeria], it’s not so,” Davido said candidly.

He further shared that he supported Kamala Harris in the U.S. elections, hoping to witness history with the rise of the first female president. Despite his choice, Davido emphasized his respect for the democratic process, explaining why he congratulated Donald Trump after his victory.

“I congratulated Donald Trump. That’s the president! What are you talking about? If I were running against him, I would still have congratulated him,” he said, showcasing his belief in the value of democratic principles.

The singer’s remarks have ignited debates online, with many praising his frankness while others question the complexities of both countries’ political systems.

As one of Nigeria’s most influential voices, Davido’s statements shine a spotlight on the ongoing conversation about democracy and governance in Africa's most populous nation.
