Nigerian singer and social media personality Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) just two months after his previous release.
The outspoken artist, also known by his alias Akpi, was taken into custody in Owerri during a show upon his return to Nigeria. His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the arrest on Wednesday in a post on Facebook:
“Our client Speed Darlington, a.k.a AKPI has been arrested by the Nigerian police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria.”
Speed Darlington was previously arrested on October 4, 2024, following the release of a controversial video in which he allegedly mocked fellow artist Burna Boy and his association with American rapper Diddy. The latter had been embroiled in an FBI investigation over allegations of sexual exploitation.
Speed Darlington spent five days in detention before being released on October 9.
The specifics of the current charges remain unclear, as efforts to reach the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, for comments were unsuccessful.
Stay tuned for updates as the situation unfolds.
