Veteran rapper Michael Ugochukwu Stephens, popularly known as Ruggedman, has come to the defense of Afrobeats star Davido, who has faced backlash over his comments on Nigeria’s struggling economy during a recent podcast.
Davido sparked controversy after advising Americans against relocating to Nigeria, citing the country’s economic “shambles.” While many criticized the singer’s remarks, Ruggedman took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to back Davido’s stance and redirect focus to the government’s role in addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
The Baraje crooner dismissed the backlash against Davido as misplaced, emphasizing that improving Nigeria’s economy should be the priority:
“Ok, Davido has said what he said. Moving forward, the government should fix Nigeria so nobody will say such again. All this barking all over the place is not fixing the nation. The hardship is too much.”
Ruggedman highlighted the unbearable conditions Nigerians are facing and urged critics to channel their energy toward demanding solutions from those in power rather than attacking public figures who speak up.
