The Nigerian music community has been thrown into distress following the alleged kidnapping of Jude Nnam, a celebrated Christian music composer fondly known as Ancestor.

Nnam, who serves as the National Music Director for the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and a member of the National Liturgical Commission, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), was reportedly abducted on Thursday evening around 6 p.m. in Umunnachi, Anambra State, while attending a church function.

Rev. Fr. Augustine Mario broke the news on Facebook, urging for prayers: "Please kindly keep Sir Dr. Jude Nnam (Ancestor) in your prayers. May God grant him safety and quick release from his abductors. Amen."

The shocking incident has sparked outrage and concern among the Christian community, with another priest lamenting: "If this is true, then it is a huge shame. I’m simply tired of this unfortunate space called Nigeria. Jude Nnam Ancestor! It is well."

Jude Nnam, who recently celebrated his 50th birthday, is widely regarded as a pioneer in liturgical music in Nigeria. Just last week, he ministered at the Unusual Praise 2024 event held at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity in Onitsha, where he inspired many with his profound musical talent.

The kidnapping highlights the worsening insecurity in parts of Nigeria, especially in Anambra State, where cases of abductions have become alarmingly frequent. Nnam’s abduction has reignited calls for government intervention to improve the safety of citizens across the country.
