In a surprising turn of events, Miss South Africa 2024 winner, Mia le Roux, has officially withdrawn from the ongoing Miss Universe competition in Mexico.
The Miss South Africa Organization confirmed the decision in a statement released on Friday, citing health concerns as the reason for her withdrawal.
Le Roux, the first-ever deaf contestant to represent South Africa in the global pageant, expressed her gratitude and regret in an emotional message:
“I am profoundly thankful for the unwavering support from South Africa during my time at Miss Universe. Making this decision has been incredibly challenging, knowing the dreams and hopes that have been placed on me. However, I’m deeply grateful to have the opportunity to focus on my health and recovery so I may continue to serve my country with full strength.”
The 25-year-old was among 120 beauty queens vying for the prestigious Miss Universe crown, with the finale set to take place on Saturday, November 16.
