APC Chieftain Joe Igbokwe Slams Davido Over Comments on Nigeria’s Economy

Nigerian politician and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Joe Igbokwe, has criticized Afrobeats superstar Davido for his remarks about Nigeria’s economic challenges during an American podcast interview.

Davido, speaking on the show, had cautioned Americans against relocating to Africa, particularly Nigeria, citing the country's economic struggles. “The economy is in shambles,” the singer said, drawing widespread reactions online.

Igbokwe, responding via his Facebook page, expressed disappointment in Davido’s comments and demanded a retraction. Referring to the singer as his "in-law," Igbokwe reminded Davido of the opportunities Nigeria has provided him.

“My in-law Davido has made me sad by telling the world in America that Nigeria’s economy is in shambles. This is very sad. I will advise him to retract the statement ASAP. Nigeria made Davido. QED!!!”

The APC stalwart’s reaction has further fueled the ongoing conversation about Davido’s blunt critique of Nigeria’s current economic state. While some Nigerians support Davido’s candidness, others, like Igbokwe, see his comments as damaging to the country’s image.
