In a candid interview on Oyinmomo TV, the 60-year-old actress, who had her first child at 40, encouraged single women to prioritize motherhood over societal expectations.
During the interview, Mogaji explained the societal pressures that older women face when seeking marriage, particularly when it comes to age. She highlighted that women often get criticized for being “too old” to marry, with men being advised to seek younger women who are perceived as more submissive. In her view, motherhood should not be sacrificed because of the pressure to find a husband.
“What I’m saying is, once you are 35 or older and you don’t have a husband, but there is someone in your life who is not ready for marriage but wants a child, have a child with him, even if he won’t accept responsibility for the child," Mogaji said.
She went on to emphasize that waiting for marriage could mean delaying motherhood to the point where women struggle to raise children or miss out on becoming grandmothers altogether. Mogaji urged women to make choices that align with their personal desires rather than conforming to societal standards.
Her advice sparked mixed reactions, with some praising her progressive stance on empowering women to take control of their lives, while others debated the traditional values of marriage and family.
Mogaji also suggested adoption as an option for women who cannot find a man to father their child, emphasizing that motherhood is a blessing that shouldn’t be delayed or ignored.
The actress’s bold statements have ignited discussions about the balance between societal expectations, personal fulfillment, and the evolving roles of women in today’s world.
