Basketmouth Expresses Frustration Over Nigeria's Economic Woes, Says the Country May Never Get Better [Video]

Famous Nigerian comedian Basketmouth has voiced his deep frustrations over the country’s worsening economic situation, stating that Nigeria might never improve under its current leadership and policies.

Speaking during an interview with AFRIMMA, the comedian highlighted the sharp depreciation of the naira and the lack of effective policies to address the nation’s challenges.

In a now-viral video, Basketmouth didn’t hold back his pessimism. He pointed out how the naira has steadily depreciated against the dollar since 1970, citing the currency’s plummet from 1 naira to 1 dollar in 1970 to a staggering 1,600 naira to 1 dollar today. The comedian noted that throughout this period, there has never been a reversal or significant recovery of the naira's value.

“There was never a time from 1970 that the dollar crashed and went back to what it was. It has never happened. Every time it changes, all the conversations you will be hearing are ‘E go better, E go better,’ but it is getting worse,” he lamented.

Basketmouth expressed his frustration with the government’s policies, specifically citing the recent hike in passport prices, which he believes is a strategic move to exploit citizens who are eager to leave the country amid the hardship.

“I suspect that our government planned to make the Nigerian population suffer. So that when they suffer, they can now want to japa (leave the country), then they will increase the price of the passport to make more money,” he said.

Though the comedian hinted that he hasn't completely given up hope, his sarcastic remarks suggested a deep cynicism. “It’s not like I have given up hope, I’m hopeful maybe one day, the country will be better. Let all believe in that pipe dream. It’s over,” he concluded, leaving viewers with a stark reminder of the grim realities many Nigerians face.

Basketmouth's candid remarks have sparked discussions online, with many echoing his concerns about the country’s trajectory and the seemingly endless cycle of hardship.
