South African singer Tyla has made headlines after her self-titled debut album was moved from the R&B to the Pop category for the upcoming Grammy Awards.

According to Hollywood Reporters, the Recording Academy’s R&B screening committee reassigned her project, originally submitted for Best R&B Album, to Best Pop Vocal Album.

If nominated, Tyla would make history as the first African artist to compete in the pop category. She is now poised to face tough competition from the likes of Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department, Ariana Grande’s Eternal Sunshine, Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft, Chappell Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, and Sabrina Carpenter’s Short N’ Sweet.

Reacting to the reclassification, Tyla excitedly wrote on X: “I make it all,” showcasing her versatility as an artist.

Tyla’s rise has been swift; earlier this year, she claimed the first-ever Grammy for Best African Music Performance with her chart-topping single "Water." Her growing global influence continues to break new ground for African artists in international music scenes.
