Popular Nigerian songstress, Simi, has shared powerful advice on how to raise and empower the girl child. In a candid video posted on her Instagram page, Simi urged parents to prioritize teaching their daughters financial independence, warning against the outdated notion of depending on a man for security.
The singer passionately discouraged the practice of some parents praying for wealthy husbands for their daughters, instead emphasizing the importance of raising girls to be self-reliant and in control of their own financial futures.
Simi stressed the value of independence, saying, “Parents, raise your daughters to be self-sufficient and not to think that when they grow up, all they have to do is rely on someone to take care of them.”
She added, “There is security in being independent. A woman’s economic power is in fending for herself and being able to confidently acknowledge that she’s a complete person. Let them know that you are standing strong.”
