Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, has raised alarm over the excessive military and police presence in the South-Eastern part of Nigeria.

In a viral video shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday, the actor expressed his concerns about the humiliation and delays faced by travellers in the region.

Kanayo, who recently traveled from Ibadan to Lagos, compared the smooth journey to the harsh experience of those traveling within the South-East.

"I left the Felele Olorunsogo area of Ibadan at 7:15 this morning, and I am in Lagos at exactly 8:15. Over the distance of 80 kilometers, I didn’t see a single police or army checkpoint," he remarked.

He then questioned why the South-East is heavily militarized, with numerous checkpoints on major routes. "Why is the South-East so militarized and policed that you can't go 200 kilometers without hitting a checkpoint? The humiliation that people go through, especially on routes like Enugu to Onitsha, is unacceptable," Kanayo added, describing how travelers are often asked to exit their vehicles with their hands raised.

His powerful message has sparked heated debates online, with many supporting his call for action, demanding that the Nigerian government clarify its position on the treatment of South-East citizens. Kanayo ended his statement by asking, "Is the South-East still part of Nigeria? Have the representatives seen the state of the federal roads?"

The actor’s candid remarks have struck a nerve, raising questions about security protocols and their impact on the daily lives of ordinary Nigerians in the region.
