An investigative panel has revealed that there is no evidence to support claims that popular Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, slept outside of Kirikiri prison during his six-month jail term for naira mutilation.
The findings were disclosed by Uju Agomoh, Executive Director of the Prisoners' Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA), during the phase one report presentation at the Ministry of Interior.
Bobrisky, who was sentenced on April 12, 2024, and released on August 5, 2024, had been accused by social media activist VeryDarkMan of evading his prison sentence by staying in a lodge due to the influence of a "godfather." The activist also alleged that Bobrisky bribed officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with N15 million to drop money laundering charges.
However, the investigative panel, which was set up by Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo on September 30, 2024, found no evidence to support the claim. Agomoh confirmed, “We did not find any evidence thus far that suggested that Mr. Okuneye slept outside the custodial centre during the period of his imprisonment... with the usual remission applicable.”
The report is part of an ongoing probe led by Magdalena Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, investigating alleged corruption and violations within the Nigerian Correctional Service.
This development has sparked discussions on social media, with many eagerly awaiting the final report from the investigative panel.
