Newly-crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, has addressed the criticism surrounding her recent victory, asserting that she did not secure a "pity win."
In an interview with Arise News on Friday, Adetshina confidently stated that her success in the pageant was a result of hard work and perseverance, despite what some may believe.
The 23-year-old beauty queen, who had previously withdrawn from the Miss South Africa pageant amidst controversy and xenophobic backlash, clarified that she earned her crown on merit.
She explained, "A lot of people felt like it was a pity win. I don’t think so. I feel like I really worked so hard, coming from the South Africa journey. We spent like 10 weeks in camp, going through the whole journey."
Chidimma added that despite her unique experiences, her journey was no different from that of other contestants, emphasizing that she faced the same challenges.
Her remarks come after intense public scrutiny following her forced exit from Miss South Africa 2024, due to allegations involving her mother’s identity theft case and xenophobic sentiments in the country.
Now, after winning the Miss Universe Nigeria title, she is standing tall, determined to prove that her achievement was well-deserved.

The journey might have been slightly different compared to everyone else, but looking back, I feel I had the same experience as the other ladies.
