Popular Nigerian musician Danny Young, born Ajibola Danladi, has expressed that the rise of social media brought an end to the oppressive practices in the Nigerian music industry.

In a recent podcast, Danny Young recounted how a powerful figure deliberately excluded him from an award nomination during his career. He highlighted how the control of gatekeepers once stifled many artists' progress, but credited social media for shifting the balance of power back to creatives.

"The good thing is that social media came to expose many of them because it gave people the opportunity to express themselves. That is what led to the emergence of what we call Gen Z," the singer explained.

He further defined Gen Z as the embodiment of freedom of speech, rights, and expression, emphasizing that social platforms have empowered artists to take control of their narratives.

Danny Young’s comments have sparked conversations around the changing dynamics of the music industry and the role social media plays in promoting creativity without external interference.
