Controversy often breeds curiosity, and this was no different for Nollywood actress Eniola Ajao, whose movie "Ajakaju - Beasts of Two Worlds" faced a storm of controversy before its release. Despite initial setbacks and online backlash, the movie surprised critics and fans alike by smashing box office records within its opening weekend.
Before the movie's release, Eniola Ajao was embroiled in a public spat with controversial figure Bobrisky, leading to online pleas and tears to drum up support for the movie. Critics and netizens criticized her approach, citing that using controversy to promote a movie was not the ideal strategy.
However, the movie defied expectations, grossing a staggering ₦63.2M in its opening weekend. This success marked several milestones for the film and its producer, including the "Biggest Opening for a Nollywood Film released in 2024," "Highest Grossing Film for the weekend," and "Biggest Opening for an Indigenous Film of all Time."
Other accolades include "Strongest Ever Easter Opening Film," "Third Highest Opening for a Nollywood Film of all Time" and "Biggest Opening Record for a first-time Producer in Cinema."

While the movie's opening weekend success was impressive, it fell short of surpassing Funke Akindele's "Tribe Called Judah," which holds the current record with ₦113.2M in opening weekend sales.
Other movies with better openings include Funke Akindele's Omo Ghetto: The Saga which opened with ₦99.8M in sales and Niyi Akinmolayan's The Wedding Party 2 which grossed ₦65.6M on its opening.
As the movie continues its theatrical run, the question remains: can it beat the current record holder? Stay tuned to Nollywood Times for updates on the box office performance of "Ajakaju - Beasts of Two Worlds."
