Nigerian singer Burna Boy has responded strongly to comments made by his colleague, Eedris Abdulkareem, in an upcoming episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast.
Abdulkareem criticized Burna Boy for allegedly claiming that no Nigerian artist helped him, in a teaser clip that went viral on X on Saturday.
“You hear someone like Burna Boy say no one helped him in Nigeria. That’s stupid talk,” Abdulkareem said in the viral clip.
In response, Burna Boy, in a now-deleted post on his verified X handle, stated that he did not hold Abdulkareem responsible for his comments. Instead, he directed his frustration towards those who donated money to help settle Abdulkareem's hospital bills during his kidney transplant in 2022.
The 'African Giant' singer, who is currently in the Bahamas for a show, expressed a desire for Abdulkareem to be present so they could settle their differences physically.
He wrote in Pidgin: “Abdul Kareem abi wettin dem dey call your papa, I no blame you. I blame people wey donate money for your hospital bills. And I wish say you be person wey fit dey enter the kind places wey I dey, make we use mistake jam.”![]() |
In response, Abdulkareem took to his Instagram page to express his disappointment, stating that Burna Boy's wish for his death was "truly saddening and very disappointing." Abdulkareem found Burna Boy's mockery of his health crisis and blame towards those who supported him during his time of need shameful.
The veteran singer also announced his intention to release a single soon to address the rift between them.
“I will reply through the only medium that I have… and that is music; so I will be dropping my heartfelt response via a single aptly named ‘Essay to Burna Boy’ in a fortnight,” he added.
