Woman arrested by police for fatally beating 5-year-old stepdaughter

The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended an 18-year-old woman who is believed to have fatally assaulted her stepdaughter.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Ahmad Wakil, stated on Tuesday in Bauchi that the suspect allegedly attacked the five-year-old girl, Hafsat Garba, for staining her clothes with feces.

Wakil further explained that on September 28, 2023, at approximately 9:25 pm, Abdulaziz Adamu from Kandahar Area, Bauchi, reported to the A Divisional Police Headquarters about the stepmother's assault on her stepdaughter.

“As a result, she sustained serious injuries to her body and on receiving the report, a team of detectives led by the DPO swung into action.

“The team rushed to the scene and moved the victim to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi for medical attention, where she was certified dead by a medical doctor.”

In the same vein, SP Wakil has reported that the command has apprehended two individuals belonging to a quasi-security group who are suspected of using excessive force during the questioning of three individuals accused of a crime. Tragically, one of the suspects lost his life as a result.

The three suspects, namely Joshua Yohana, Bitrus Iliya, and Yohana Abubakar, were being interrogated in connection with the alleged disappearance of Usman Sale's manhood from Sabon Garin Nabardo village. During the interrogation, Yohana Abubakar collapsed and was immediately taken to a nearby clinic, where he unfortunately passed away.

SP Wakil assured that the individuals responsible for the incident were swiftly apprehended, and the deceased's body was released to his family for proper burial.

“Investigation is still ongoing, after which the suspects will be charged in court for prosecution,” the Police scribe said.
