The Osun State Government has issued an order for the temporary closure of The Osun State Polytechnic, Iree Campus, for a duration of two weeks.

This decision was prompted by the reinstatement of the previously suspended Rector, Tajudeen Odetayo.

The directive to close the campus was communicated by the state government through an official statement signed by the Commissioner for Education, Dipo Eluwole, on Thursday.

“This to inform the general public, particularly members of staff and students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree to proceed on two
weeks break, with immediate effect.

“The immediate break is a necessary action in order to maintain peace in the Institution consequent upon the forceful return of the suspended Rector, Dr. T.A. Odetayo.

“The general public should also note that School accounts have been frozen with immediate effect and it is imperative that everyone cooperates fully and adheres to these directives.”

As a recap, the state government had previously suspended Tajudeen Odetayo via a letter signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Kehinde Jimoh, on July 24, 2023, citing alleged gross misappropriation of funds and abuse of office.

He was temporarily replaced by Alabi Kehinde, who assumed the role in an acting capacity.

It's worth noting that Tajudeen Odetayo, the suspended Rector, had resumed his office early on Thursday following an order from the National Industrial Court, Ibadan Division, which reinstated him as the Rector.

In the court's ruling on the motion, Justice Opeloye Ogunbowale granted an interim order that restrained Governor Adeleke and 14 others from appointing a new Rector for the polytechnic.

Furthermore, Justice Ogunbowale instructed Adeleke and other respondents to cease any further actions related to the institution until the hearing of the motion on notice, scheduled for October 10, 2023.

The judge also directed that a hearing notice be issued to all respondents before the next adjourned date.

In the midst of these developments, the acting Rector appointed by the state government, Kehinde Alabi, has appealed to the members of the Polytechnic Community to remain calm.

Alabi urged the staff and students at the school not to succumb to any form of intimidation but to uphold peace and order.

In a personally signed statement on Thursday, Alabi said, “The state government is looking into the situation and will get stay of execution in court.”
