CHAN 2023 Qualifiers: Super Eagles humbled 2-0 by Ghana in ‘Jollof Derby’

The 'Jollof Derby' ended on a sad note for the Super Eagles B team as they were humbled 2-0 by the Black Galaxies of Ghana at Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

The Ghanaians get things broke the heart of the Nigerians in the second half with the two goals. With that defeat, the Super Eagles have to now work extra hard in the return leg in Abuja on Saturday.

The match was cagey all through the first half as it ended goalless. However, in the second half, the Ghanaians came out smoking and scored their first goal from the spot off the boot of Afrieye Barneh in the 50th minute.

With a goal down, the Super Eagles threw everything into the match, plus the kitchen sink, but nothing worked. As the game dragged on, it was as if the match would stay 1-0 and end that way, but in the 87th minute, Seidu Suraj delivered a sucker punch of a shot from close range. The shot flew past Adewale, who punched it into the net, which became the second goal for Ghana to put them in a comfortable seat during the game and on the table.

Ghana is looking forward to a return to the CHAN after missing out on the last three editions, and it seems that Nigeria would be the door for them to make the return.

Nigeria, on the other hand, missed the last edition in Cameroon, thus returning to the competition, with Ghana standing in its way to progress. We would have to wait till Saturday to find out how that would pan out.
